Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Up4It app and website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Up4It is operated by The Design5 Company Inc. ("Design5", "we", "us"). Contact us at admin@thedesign5.com.
Information we collect
- Your phone number. Your mobile number is how you sign in, like WhatsApp: there is no username or password. When you sign in on a phone, we text that number a one-time code to confirm it's yours. Your number also lets friends' invitations find you.
- Profile. The name and photo you choose to show other members.
- Plans you create or join. Titles, descriptions, times, places and replies.
- People you invite. When you invite friends you pick from your contacts, the app sends us only those friends' phone numbers. We never upload your address book or your contacts' names. We store each invited number as a keyed one-way hash, so we can tell the friend about the plan when they join, and encrypted so that only you, the host, can see who hasn't joined yet. Invitations to people who never join are deleted 30 days after the plan ends.
- Photos you add, such as a profile picture or a plan's image.
- Location, only if you allow it. The app uses your device's location to show plans and places near you. It's sent with those requests, and we don't keep a history of where you've been. The places you pick for plans are stored with the plan.
- Notification tokens. If you turn on notifications, your device gives us a token so we can tell you about invitations and changes to your plans.
- Technical and diagnostic information. Logs such as request times, errors, app version and device type, used to keep the service running, fix problems and prevent abuse.
The app asks your permission before using your contacts, location, photos or notifications, and you can change these permissions at any time in your device's settings.
How we use information
- To create and secure your account, sign you in with your phone number, and keep you signed in.
- To connect you with plans your friends invite you to.
- To run the app's features, such as showing plans, guest lists and replies.
- To prevent abuse, fix problems and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Text messages (SMS)
We text your phone number only to send the one-time sign-in codes you request. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except the service providers that deliver the messages for us.
Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop receiving messages, or HELP for help. See the SMS terms for details.
Who we share information with
- Other Up4It members, as the app intends: for example, your name and reply are visible to the people in a plan you join.
- Service providers who run parts of the service for us: Microsoft Azure (hosting and storage), Twilio (delivering sign-in codes), and Apple and Google (maps, places and notifications). They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
- If Up4It or Design5 is sold or merged, information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep protecting it as this policy describes. We'll tell you before that happens.
Our service is hosted in the United States. If you use Up4It from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.
How long we keep information
We keep your account information while your account exists. Verification codes are stored only as a hash and expire after 10 minutes. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account). This erases your account and your phone number from our service right away; backups are overwritten within 7 days.
If Up4It shuts down
If we discontinue Up4It, we'll try to tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days in advance when we reasonably can. Within 90 days after the service ends, we will delete or anonymize the personal information we hold about you, except anything we must keep by law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to our systems uses managed identities rather than shared passwords, and secrets are held in a key vault.
Children
Up4It is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can see and change your information in the app, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your information, or to object to how we use it. Email admin@thedesign5.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
We may update this policy as Up4It evolves. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. We won't use information we already have in a materially different way without your consent.
